1816-2016 From the Vereinsmusikschule to the University of Music and Performing Arts


2016 the establishment of the first singing class at the Styrian Musical Society (today the Musikverein für Steiermark) has  its 200th anniversary, from which developed over many years today’s University for Music and Performing Arts Graz. To honour this anniversary the archive of the University created in collaboration with the library of the University a virtual exhibition that illustrates with the help of selected documents from the archive and sheet music from the library the history of the institution and its predecessor institutions.

The exhibition was started off in context of the premiere of “200 Jahre bewegte Luft” on the 16th of November 2016, at which excerpts were presented on twelve canvases. These canvases were spread across different buildings of the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz and point to the online exhibition by a QR-Code.
